Calling all Hams of Elmore County, Idaho. We are forming an A.R.E.S. (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) unit here in Elmore County Idaho. My name is John Holwege, AB7RQ, and I am the new Elmore County Emergency Coordinator (EC) for ARRL-ARES.

I want to tell you about myself and my background. I have been a Ham since 1994. I have held a few different calls in the past 18 years; KC7BKA, KJ7LW, and currently AB7RQ. In the last 18 years I have been active at different times with ARES, Search and Rescue (to include a brief time with Elmore County Search and Rescue), and SkyWarn. I have recently taken my passion for emergency management to a new level when I began my Master’s in Public Affairs with a concentration in Disaster and Emergency Management. I look forward to being your EC and getting to know the Hams here in Elmore County. I also look forward to reaching out to our local county government offering whatever assistance the local ham population can give. I firmly believe that in times of a disaster, it takes as many trained and prepared people to help a community overcome any difficulties encountered due to the results of such events. I think it is critical that we all sharpen our skills and prepare for however we may be needed in the future.

I would like to begin by getting a list of all hams in the county who are interested in joining A.R.E.S. Please contact me by email at  or by phone at 208-954-9224.
